The Risk of Water-Based Solid Stains
While solid stains offer a "painted" look and a wide variety of colors, they carry a high risk of peeling and bubbling. Because they form a film on top of the wood, moisture can get trapped underneath, causing the finish to lift. Once a solid stain begins to peel, the only fix is a costly and labor-intensive full restoration.

The more pigment a stain has, the more protection it offers against the sun’s harsh UV rays. We offer three primary levels of coverage:

Note on Wood Color: The final look is heavily influenced by the wood's species and age. New cedar will take stain differently than aged pressure-treated lumber. If you have replaced boards recently, expect some color variation, however we will do our best to blend the new wood with the old for a cohesive finish.
